El apoyo a la democracia en México ¿El deseo crítico de una democracia liberal?

El deseo crítico de una democracia liberal es un indicador de que la evaluación que realizan los ciudadanos del sistema político está inspirada por las expectativas de vivir en un régimen que garantiza derechos y libertades democráticos. Este estudio analiza el deseo crítico de una democracia liberal en México, un caso en el que el desempeño de una democracia emergente motivó una insatisfacción política generalizada. Empleando datos del World Values Survey, este trabajo muestra que los deseos críticos de una democracia liberal son más débiles de lo esperado originalmente, desempeñando un rol limitado para clarificar las aspiraciones democráticas en este país. Los resultados sugieren que, en democracias emergentes y deficientes, aun cuando el descontento con el sistema político sea extenso, el apoyo a la democracia puede ser insuficiente para motivar demandas que promuevan el fortalecimiento de los derechos y libertades ciudadanos.
