AMLO and his party

In a short period of time, Morena has become Mexico’s dominant party. However, it suffers from three problems which may limit its ability to promote the Cuarta Transformación beyond the term of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. First, it has failed to institutionalize as a party capable of processing internal conflicts. Second, it has had difficulty establishing strong connections with sympathetic social groups. And finally, it has failed to restrain AMLO and thus create an independent identity. It is therefore dependent on AMLO’s performance in office and may not be able to keep voter loyalties with a different presidential candidate.
