Public security in Mexico during the “Cuarta Transformación”
Keywords:
Cuarta transformación, AMLO, public security, drug violenceAbstract
This article analyzes the issue of public security in Mexico during the first half of the Andrés Manuel López Obrador administration. The main elements of the strategy in this area of the government of the so-called Cuarta Transformación (4T) and its results are explained here. The state of organized crime in the country during this period is also described. Finally, areas of opportunity and potential action are identified for the remaining three years of the administration’s term. Although some advances in public security have to be acknowledged, I nonetheless conclude that the overall results are unsatisfactory.
