La posición del pri en la política mexicana

El Partido Revolucionario Institucional (pri) dominó la política mexicana durante más de setenta años, pero su suerte ha ido declinando a lo largo de las dos últimas décadas, lo que culminó con su pérdida de la presidencia en 2000. Los resultados que obtuvo el pri fueron todavía peores en 2006, cuando terminó en tercer lugar de la contienda por la presidencia y pérdidas significativas en ambas cámaras de la legislatura. En este artículo se analiza si el pri está o no en peligro de pasar de ser el partido dominante a representar un tercer partido en un sistema bipartidista. Los resultados sugieren que elpri se ha quedado rezagado pero que puede tener una ventana estrecha para reagruparse, sobre la base de una ventaja regional comparativa en los estados del norte y del sur.
