Abstract

This article seeks to give an alternative explanation of teh use of violence in Mexican political culture. The work is based on workby Almond and Verba and considers that, because of the relative stability and durability of the mexican system, the probability of this political culture continuing is quite high. The political culture as it has developped  operates in two parallel and functional worldsthat can be described using the metaphor "softball" and "hardball". "Softball" refers to the apparent cooperation wich operates within the national political system. The "hardball" is synonymus with dirty politics blows and tends to characterize local politics. The political assassinations of 1994 reintroduced the rules of "hardball" at the national elite level and tend to erase the limits between two worlds of political cultures.
