El pri: relación interna de fuerzas y conflicto en la víspera del proceso electoral de 2006

Desde julio de 2000, la evolución interna del Partido Revolucionario Institucional (pri) se ha caracterizado por los siguientes factores: la necesidad de llenar el vacío político que la pérdida de la presidencia de la república dejó en su estructura de autoridad interna; la heterogeneidad organizativa de sus fuerzas componentes; el aglutinamiento de las cúpulas partidarias en dos grandes bloques internos, dentro de los cuales los gobernadores priístas tuvieron un papel político decisivo; los cambiantes reacomodos en las alianzas tejidas entre las cúpulas partidarias; y, por último, un cerrado equilibrio en la relación interna de fuerzas. A fines de 2004, ante la cercanía de la elección presidencial de 2006, se intensificaron los conflictos internos en torno a las reglas para postular al candidato presidencial y para sustituir a su principal dirigente nacional. En la disputa por controlar estas posiciones, esos dos grupos intentaron negociar acuerdos básicos para luego formalizarlos en una reforma estatutaria que no logró ser votada durante la asamblea nacional. En consecuencia, el pri entró profundamente dividido a la campaña presidencial en 2005-2006.
